I certainly wouldn't doubt that was the cause of the messed up cable, I did it by accident/stupidity on my '96 years ago.

I would guess a computer cable might work in a pinch but the "wires"...

Actually turned out to be a bad connection in the black plug harness towards the rear of the engine that contained the sensor(s) common ground wire(Bk/Bl).
