Default 47RE 1st-2nd

At 327K my truck decides it wants shift into 2nd at redline with my foot almost completely off the go pedal! I'm thinking the gov pres sensor and solenoid again so I order the crap to do it in a kit with even a lock-up solenoid and wire harness, and tranny speed sensor with filter. Happy happy joy joy! While into it, I just checked for play in the band levers. Holy crap! I then didn't see how it could shift at all with an inch of slop there. Compared to 727s I've screwed with before it seemed WAY off. So I raised the line pressure about 1.5 lbs while I was at it and adjusted the rear band. Didn't think to count the turns to get that torqued but it was a lot. After adjusting the play at the lever felt much better, but still looser than a 727. All back together and test drive, still 1st-2nd shift the same.
Next day - I decide to adjust front band. I'm already sore from working on my back. Whoever put that locknut on there is crazy! supposed to be 35ftlbs not 95. Adjustment screw goes in almost out of the locknut before hitting 72inlbs. Backed out 1-7/8 turns per FSM. Pulled out rearend speed sensor to check it out for metal particles. Not present!
Truck shifts almost perfect. (for what it is) Wondering how long!

Says 47RE on window sticker. Look at page 819 in the FSM for instruction to adjust line pressure. I only backed the screw out one turn...I'm a chicken!

I was expecting this! 2nd gear shift is basically not there. Going to have to be rebuilt. Me babying the tranny is probably the only reason it lasted 345,000 miles.
Don't want stock slushy torque converter in it. Seems to need lower stall speed. I wish I could get it to MAXTORQ for rebuild. I've never abused it except for a few times pulling stumps out of yard and pulling 5th wheel. Never had any issues with it other than governor sensor/shift solenoid.
Not going for high HP rebuild but would like to make it tough enough to live till I die! LOL
Can anyone tell me a good TC to get? Or should I just order a complete tranny from someone? I've changed out 727s before. Is it that hard to remove a 47re from a 4wd '01?

A tranny swap is a tranny swap, more or less. The transfer case does make it a little more fun.
A 47RE in a 96 isn't any worse than anything else, and not as bad as some...
Far as the TC is concerned, Good Luck. The 'tighter' ones I've bought have been disappointing to me.
My 01 Silverado has a tighter converter than either dodge I've changed.
Apparently, unless somebody knows a secret, you have to spend well over a grand for a decent TC.

My Ex would be in a casket if I sent her. Karma's a you-know-what, if you know what I mean. The cost of the trip to Maxtork's and the tranny kind of rules that option out. But I wish I could do it.

First off you have a 47re no such thing as a 48rh.

Putting together a good tranny will cost about 4K depending on parts used. Converter wise I use Phil at DPC converters in Georgia.

Just find a decent shop that understands these trucks. Or you can order a trans such as a suncoast or georand.

Well, I never said it was a 48rh. Don't know where that came from.
Had it rebuilt by a recommended shop. What do you guys think about the total bill?

Not bad. Mine would cost 4200 to 4800 depending on how you want it built. And the bill would a have been a bit more legible.
