Default Forum Updating

Hiya Folks

Right, I know it's been talked about endlessly, but there is finally progress being made on updating our site. What we're doing is migrating the board's platform from UBB to vBulletin. In gearhead terms, we're pulling the V8 gaspot and transplanting in a good old 6 cyl Cummins! And just like doing an engine swap in a vehicle, there are a host of behind the scenes issues, challenges and tasks that we need to address. These things take time, and there are always unexpected hiccups.

As a user, you will not see any changes until the actual transfer date, which is still a month or two away. And while the new site will have an entirely new look and atmosphere, it will still maintain the basic...ummm...insanity of Dieselram. Okay, seriously, you won't have much trouble navigating the new site. It'll be the same...but different LOL

We're taking our time here to minimize any negative impacts to our readers. In the meantime, just keep plugging away and have patience...you're good!

To date:

1) We have the background for the site almost complete. Graphics and layouts are done. We're adjusting some colours as the current style is a little hard to read. But it is awesome! Sorry, no sneak peeks!

2) We will be running our first beta transfer next week, probably March 4th between noon and 3 pm Mountain Standard Time. Think that's like 2pm and 5pm for youse News Joisey Types. The board will be shut down for a few hours during this time. Shouldn't take long, we just need to take a snapshot of the current board and see how our databases transfer to the new software. Ha. That's going to be fun.

3) We have already identified a few issues that are beyond our control; most are relatively minor. But we are fairly sure that your passwords will need to be reset prior to your logging on to the new forum. We're still figuring out this issue. More info as it becomes available.

4) As an FYI, one other potential issue is with links posted in threads. We think the hyperlinks might not transfer across and be "clickable" in the new forums...working on this. The link info will still be there, but you'd need to manually copy the link into your browser's address bar.

5) We are planning on adding a photo section for our readers so you can post pics of your ride, or other relevant material.

6) I really don't like putting a firm date down for the upgrade (we all have day jobs and families) but my target is to have the majority of the changeover done by the beginning of April.

That's all for now...keep checking here for updates.
