Default Forum Updating 5

Well...we're pretty much done testing out the transfer of our site to the new format. I must admit I expected alot more "challenges" to crop up seeing as we are migrating from one software platform to another. But, we have an extremely competent database guru helping out this time around, and Steve has been invaluable in making this transition "fun" versus "frustrating".

As it stands today, we have the potential to go live with the new format anytime we want, but unlike the last time we did this we're going to sort out a few more things first. Mostly what we're looking at is boring behind the scenes settings, images, display tweaking, vendor stuff etc blah blah blah.

There will be a small learning curve for navigating the new site...if you have navigated other forums using vbulletin, then you're ahead of the game already. But overall there will be a familiar feel...just be patient and look around the screen. You'll find what you need.

Now...Important stuff

1) We are targeting a switch to the new site in about 15 days (VT cheers quietly). But please understand that we all have day jobs, and that work has a habit of interrupting our regular lives

2) After the transfer, please DO NOT send a message to the administrators asking things like "how do I use the search function?". We're going to be busy checking on things and fixing any last minute glitches. I'm sorry, but there just isn't any way we can do this transfer and handle 11 billion requests for help at once

3) Make SURE your email on the current board is a valid one that you actually check on a regular basis. We may use the mass email function to send info to all members at once. You will need that email to be the one you use all the time so that if you need to request a lost password you will be able to retrieve it.

4) We recommend setting your screen resolution to at least 1024 x 768 for the new site to display properly. Usually this is done by right clicking your desktop and selecting "display properties". Try resetting your display size now before the move. If you are still running an old 15" monitor, you will still be able to read the site, but you'll likely need to scroll sideways in order to read posts.

5) Some custom avatar pictures came across as massive images. If you see that your avatar is the size of a greyhound bus, please take it down, and re-upload it under the user control panel. Maximum size is 80 x 80 pixels (19.5kb)

6) Users now have online photo albums (cheers)

7) We're working on some chat functions for you folks. Let's face it, Shoutbox sucks arse.

That's it for now!

ps

Folks, you're going to be blown away by the look of the new site...it's simply awesome.

Agreed , I hope you all enjoy it because this transfer by far has been alot of fun. The new site is alot more user friendly . You will find that the search function is rather easy to use. One key word such as CP3 or VP44 or Silencer ring will bring a ton of info . Plus you can search the individual forums for those topics.

Enjoy DR it has been a long road.
