Default Radiator flush

Is it a good idea to run Some radiator flush through the system or will that cause more problems? On my 01. It has never been flushed out that I can remember. Heater as started blowing just slightly warm air so I'm sure it must be partially clogged up. If so is there a WRONG way to do it that I should void ?

Its funny, I just asked an engine rebuilder I work with the same question yesterday, he said it could open up other problems, such as your waterpump could start to leak, also any weak frostplugs could weep, and usually its at the rear of the block. I asked because my daughter was asking me if she should do it to hers. Just my 2 cents worth.

Is your engine coming up to full operating temp, if not then you may have tsat stuck open. If it is then you may have a broken air blend door in the hvac system.

If you are going to flush the radiator, do it separate from the block. Otherwise you will be pushing scale and rust into the radiator making it worse. I can say that by experience.

You'd be lucky if your heater care didn't leak after flushing. Mine sure did.

Fortunately the 2nd gen heater core is fairly easy to change. If you get one with swiveling tubes it's even easier.
I would be hesitant using a caustic flush solution because of the engine oil cooler. If you compromise that you'll wind up with oil in the antifreeze and might make you think it was a head gasket.
