Turbo Question
Is there any reason why I cannot switch a turbo out of my 97 12v for one out of a 99 24v. Friend upgraded turbos and will sell me his stock turbo for 200.00

Looking on Crockauto website the turbos carry a different P# and appear different as well. for 200 bones it is a core to me. Bur I'm not sure if parts could be swapped around to make the '99 work on your '97....BD site has picture showing major differences as well.

Be careful when buying a used turbo unless you actually know how the guy treats his truck. Check the radial and axial movement of the shaft, turn the shaft very slowly to see if there is any sticky spots. Is he adamant about having a clean air filter, because a dirty air filter will cause the wheel to thrust towards the air filter, gasping for enough air, thus causing premature wear on the thrust bearing. If hes a fan of "Hot Shutdown" after a hard pull or whatever, the bearings, rings could show signs of "Coking" , plus a discolored shaft, all could add up to a premature catastrophic failure. I deal with this every day, the turbo could look fine on the outside, but the internals tell another story as to how the truck has been run.
