It was necessary for me. That Scheid Diesel injection pump is set up to go to 4,000 RPM. Not that I got there, it's just insurance that if I do I won't beat the valves to death on top of the pistons.
I got my updated overdrive override in and works as advertised. Simple is best.
It's a lighted on/off switch that replaced the momentary switch in the shift lever that runs a relay. The relay was necessary because the wires running inside the shift lever where too small to carry the OD power.

Down again. The alternator went full tilt on me yesterday on the way home from work. Snowing, won't be able to troubleshoot until tomorrow.

I never had a black truck.
Anyway, it appears there is a short in the harness somewhere. I'm getting a voltage bleed over from something into the alternator/regulator circuit.

Found it! Wasn't a short, but an intermittent open. When the wire would connect, the stray voltage would go away. All I need to do is piggy back the bad wire with a new one.
